A couple of weeks ago, some of the Yoke team went to a presentation by much-loved designer, art director and illustrator Jessica Walsh.
The talk was called ‘Play by Your Own Rules’ and was all about how play is a state of mind that can, and should, be used in the creative process. It was awesome.
It just so happened that as we were sat listening to Jessica talk about ‘play’, Yoke were actually in the midst of our own self-initiated playful project, one that we had called 29 x Y.
Purely for the fun of it, every day for the month of February, we would create a new handmade image of the Yoke Y and put it on the homepage of the Yoke site as well as our social channels.
We also extended the invite and ran a little creative comp where we asked others to create their own Ys with the best one winning some prizes.
So for 28 days we sprayed, cut, squeezed, burnt, shot, taped, stuck, froze and sprinkled our way through the project.
We also had some amazing creative contributions from friends and strangers alike. We even managed to get Jessica herself to do one!
Today, the 29th day, the project comes to an end with a really cool (but slightly creepy) shadow Y sent in from Melbourne designer Mizuho taking the win. Well done Mizuho!
Thanks to everyone who took part and played along with us.
